How to fold an origami paper hat

Fold a sheet in half, bring the top corners down, and roll a band up on each side for the brim. Then pull it open to wear.

You need: 1 sheet of A4 or Letter (a newspaper page makes one you can wear). Medium, 9 steps, about 4 minutes.

Steps

  1. Fold in half. Fold the top edge down to the bottom edge.
  2. Crease the centre. Fold in half side to side, crease, then unfold.
  3. Corners down. Fold the top corners down so their edges meet along the centre crease.
  4. Fold the band up. Fold the front layer of the bottom band halfway up.
  5. Fold it up again. Fold the band up once more, over the triangles.
  6. Turn it over. Flip the hat over.
  7. Back band up. Fold the other band halfway up.
  8. And up again. Fold it up once more to finish the brim.
  9. Open it up. Hold the brims at the middle and pull them gently apart. Stand the hat on its opening.

Hats off!

How to wear it

  1. Hold the brims at the middle and pull them apart to open the hat.
  2. Put it on peak up, with a corner over each ear.
  3. A sheet of A4 or Letter makes a hat about 42 cm around, which fits a doll or a toy. Use a newspaper page for one you can wear.
  4. If it is loose, fold the corners in a little and tape them.
