How to fold an origami paper cup
The classic five-fold cup. Two side corners close the sides of the pocket, the top flaps fold out of the way, and a gentle squeeze opens it.
You need: 1 square sheet, 15 × 15 cm or larger. Easy, 6 steps, about 3 minutes.
Steps
- Make a triangle. Fold the bottom corner up to meet the top corner.
- Fold the right corner across. Bring the right corner across to touch the left edge, keeping the flap's top level.
- Fold the left corner across. Fold the left corner over to the right edge, on top of the first flap.
- Fold the front flap down. Fold the top front flap down over the side flaps.
- Fold the back flap behind. Mountain-fold the remaining top flap down behind the cup.
- Open the cup. Hold the cup upright by its two side edges and squeeze them gently towards each other. The front and back pull apart and the top opens.
Your cup is ready!
Fill it with water and hold it by the sides, squeezing lightly to keep it open. Drink it soon: paper only holds water for a minute.
How to use it
- Crease every fold firmly before you open it, so the side flaps stay closed.
- Hold it by the two side edges and squeeze gently to keep the top open.
- Fill it only halfway, so it doesn't tip or spill.
- Drink from it soon: the paper softens and starts to leak after about a minute.
